We reported about more than three weeks ago that Chinese handset maker Huawei planned to bring the Ascend G6 mid-range Android smartphone to India. The device was officially introduced in the country on May 15, but the Chinese company did not provide any details regarding its availability.

However, Huawei did mention that the Ascend G6 would be available for purchase in India for no more than Rs 16,999 ($290 / €210) outright, which is a bit overpriced considering that there are many alternatives with better features in the same price range.

Nevertheless, it looks like it took Huawei more than 3 weeks to bring the Ascend G6 to this country. Fans of the Chinese brand will be able to buy the smartphone beginning today via Flipkart.

The Indian online retailer offers the Huawei Ascend G6 for the same price previously confirmed by the Chinese handset maker, meaning that potential customers will be able to pick this one up for Rs 16,999 ($290 / €210) off contract.

The bad news is that the Ascend G6 is not a dual-SIM smartphone, which might lower its sales even more after the high outright price has been announced by Huawei.

More not so great news includes the fact that the mid-range smartphone ships with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box. At least it’s better than the usual Android 4.2 Jelly Bean platform that usually comes onboard most mid-range smartphones in India.

Hopefully, Huawei will provide a KitKat upgrade for the Ascend G6, though the information has yet to be confirmed by the Chinese company.

On the more positive side, Huawei Ascend G6 is equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory. Users will also be able to expand storage up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

Although it’s a mid-range smartphone, the Ascend G6 boasts an impressive 8-megapixel camera on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) video recording, as well as a not so less impressive 5-megapixel camera in the front.

Huawei Ascend G6 sports a decent 4.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports qHD (540 x 960 pixels) resolution. It also comes with Huawei’s Emotion UI 2.0 Lite and DTS sound enhancement.

Connectivity-wise, the Ascend G6 offers HSDPA and HSUPA support, along with Wi-Fi Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, microUSB and GPS with A-GPS. It is also worth mentioning that the smartphone is powered by a 2000 mAh battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.
