Quad-core AMD OpteronT processors are used by Dell to boost performance to the next level for its PowerEdge servers. The new AMD quad-core processors are offered by the PowerEdge SC1435, 2970, M605 and 6950 platforms in compliance with Dell's strategy of providing more cost-effective complete technologies that can be used by its customers in various environments. Dell's PowerEdge SC1435, 2970 and M605, the two-socket servers that are now equipped with Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors, are able to deliver now with up to 79% more performance than the previous versions of the servers that were operating dual-core AMD Opteron processors.

The performance boost has been achieved in benchmark tests performed by Dell Labs in March 2008. Servers featuring two quad-core AMD Opteron 2356 processors have been compared to equivalent configured servers with two dual-core AMD Opteron 2222SE processors. We should take notice that, depending on server configurations, usage and manufacturing variability, the actual system performance will vary.

The PowerEdge server line has been also expanded by Dell through the launch of a new tower server, the T605. In comparison with the HP ProLiant ML350 G5, the PowerEdge T605 can achieve up to 23 percent better performance when equipped with Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors. The T605 offers high-availability features that make it ideal for small and medium businesses or remote locations. Some of these features include hot plug hard drives, redundant power supplies, and remote management features that help increase uptime and prevent loss of data access.

"Our PowerEdge servers deliver on Dell's commitment to simplify IT by providing customers with a seamless and simple upgrade path to quad-core, making it easier and quicker for them to realize the benefits of these advanced processors," said Sally Stevens, Director of PowerEdge Servers, Dell Product Group. "Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors running on Dell PowerEdge servers deliver the right balance of performance, energy efficiency and price for customers while helping to accelerate our vision of scale-out computing in the enterprise."

Dell has sustained a "listening to customers" policy so that the company may deliver innovative technology and services which customers trust and value. Those who use the PowerEdge platforms are provided by Dell with investment protection and long term server value. The company offers a simple upgrade path for all its customers to benefit from the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor.
