Over the weekend, the Syrian Electronic Army defaced several high-profile websites from Qatar after hacking the country’s domain registry. The hacktivists altered the DNS records of Google, Vodafone, Facebook, and various government and military domains.

They claim to have targeted Qatar because the country is known for supporting the actions of Syrian terrorists.

The Qatari government has acknowledged the attack. The country’s Ministry of Interior, whose domain was among those affected, has clarified that their internal systems have not been compromised.

Qatar’s Supreme Council of Information and Technology (ictQatar) has stated that all websites have been restored. The organization says the attack by the Syrian Electronic Army has not caused any financial losses or damage to the impacted sites.

Measures have been taken to prevent future attacks, ictQatar noted.
