Looks like Qantas, an Australian airline company, decided to ban all Sony batteries that accompany Dell's notebooks. However, the company's spokesperson did not mention if there will be taken other security measures that will regard all devices that come with a Sony battery.
"Apparently security personnel are simply removing the batteries and taping up the contact points, which for some reason are supposed to prevent the use of the battery onboard. Dell laptop owners wanting to use their laptops on Qantas flights will have to use the airplane's power supply. Business and first class seats are the only spots with access to the airplane's power supply, disappointingly," informs Daily Tech.
On the other hand, "The Sydney Morning Herald" claims: "The Qantas spokeswoman said she believed the security measures used in Canberra had since been relaxed, and that Dell users would asked simply be asked to identify themselves to cabin crew on all flights via a PA message. They would then be advised individually on the new usage guidelines, she said."
Looks like Qantas decision is backed by Dell, as the spokesperson stated that: "The safety of our customers comes first and our direct relationships with customers mean we must always do the right thing for them when it comes to service and product support. We are working closely with Qantas."
Dell previously recalled no less than 4, 1 million defective batteries that pose the risk of a fire hazard.
