QNAP has just announced that it has expanded its line of enterprise NAS servers with the addition of two new models from the Turbo NAS series designed to be used by SMBs and data centers demanding high performance and up-time for mission critical applications.

Both solutions are rackmountable, adopt the 2U form factor, support up to 8 storage drives and are powered by Intel processors, the TS-EC879U-RP carrying a 3.1GHz Intel Xeon E3-1225 CPU, while the TS-879U-RP comes with a 3.3GHz Core i3-2120 processor.

The fast Intel chips are paired with 4GB and 2GB of system memory respectively, ECC in the Xeon-powered NAS, redundant power supplies, two addtional slots for various storage and network expansion option and include either two or four Gigabit LAN ports.

Users also have the option of adding 10GbE networking, QNAP claiming that this would enable its NAS solutions to reach a data throughput of over 1,000MB/sec and 100,000 IOPS (input/output operations per second).

Outside of the strong hardware specs, QNAP's latest devices also come with a series of impressive features such as support for a wide series of RAID modes (0, 1, 10, 5, 6, 5+ hot spare, 6+ hot spare, 10+ hot spare) and a special Global Hot Spare technology.

This allows a spare drive to flexibly replace a failed drive on any RAID volume on the NAS for automatic RAID data rebuilding.

Turbo NAS servers are VMware Ready, Citrix XenServer Ready, and Windows Hyper-V compliant.

“QNAP’s new lineup designed for high-end SMB delivers stunning performance with optional 10 GbE card and comprehensive business features at competitive prices to fulfill the growing needs of efficient storage solutions for high-end SMBs,” said David Tsao, product manager of QNAP.

“Redundant power supplies are provided on all new models to ensure continuous system up-time. The TS-EC879U-RP with ECC RAM further enhances system reliability,” concluded the company's rep.

Both Turbo NAS servers are shipping right now, but no information regarding pricing was provided at this point in time.
