Taiwan-based QNAP, a leading provider of storage solutions and products, has recently announced the expansion of its line of VioStor video-surveillance systems, with the introduction of four new, high-performance desktop and rack-mounted models that have been specifically targeted at larger facilities. According to the company, the new lineup includes the rack-mounted VS-8032U-RP and VS-8024U-RP and the desktop tower VS-8032 and VS-8024. All of the aforementioned models have been built to simultaneously record video from up to 32 (for racks) and 24 (desktop) IP cameras.

“The VS-8000 series is the excellent surveillance solution for the users who need a security system capable of large storage for long-term video recording and flexible integration with different IP cameras. We believe the NVR with the firmware 3.1.0 is the perfect option for them,” Peace Kuo, product manager of QNAP Security, says.

The new VS-8000 series can be configured with up to eight hot-swappable hard drives for up to 16TB of total storage capacity, with support for high-performance RAID 0/1/5/6/5+. This provides customers with a large storage solution for video recording. In addition, QNAP claims that all four models are capable of recording from up to 8MP IP cameras, with support for H.264, MxPEG, MPEG-4 and M-JPEG formats. The new VioStor lineup also includes two Gigabit LAN ports with fail-over and load-balancing support for a redundant network connectivity.

QNAP's VS-8000 series ships with the company's latest firmware version, 3.10, which includes new features, like intelligent video analytics (IVA), digital watermarking of video files, auto cruising, JPEG CGI command to support more IP camera models, and SMS & email alerts. The eight hot-swappable hard drives aren't included in the package, while the rack-mounted models come with a redundant power supply that offers a backup solution if the other PSU should fail.
