Previous-generation Turbo NAS models now support the latest Mac OS

QNAP Systems, Inc. has released an updated version of its NAS Management Software in order to support of a few popular discontinued models under OS X 10.7 Lion.

Embedded as firmware, “the new V3.3.2 [update] adds support for the Mac OS X Lion operating system, including full Time Machine support,” says QNAP Systems.

Available as a free download immediately for all applicable models, the new firmware can be obtained over at the company’s download area on the official QNAP web site.

Commenting on their initiative to backtrack a little to support OS X Lion on older hardware, Jason Hsu, product manager of QNAP, said:

“Since V3.5 firmware has been launched for current Turbo NAS models, we received many requests from users who own previous generations of Turbo NAS units to support Mac OS X Lion.”

“QNAP is renowned for being committed to bringing forth quality products and services to the customer, and for continuing to support product in the field. We are pleased to add support for these popular older models to work with the new Mac OS X Lion operation system,” Hsu added.

By installing the V3.3.2 firmware, those who’ve upgraded to Mac OS X Lion and own an applicable QNAP Turbo NAS can back up their Mac to the Turbo NAS using the OS X Time Machine backup utility.

The new firmware also enables seamless storage and file sharing on the Turbo NAS.

According to the developers, firmware V3.3.2 is immediately available for the following QNAP Turbo NAS models: TS-409 Pro, TS-409U, TS-409, TS-209 Pro II, TS-209 Pro, TS-209 II, TS-209, TS-109 Pro II, TS-109 Pro, TS-109 II, TS-109.
