Although the Intel Atom processors were initially developed to power small-sized, ultra-portable computer systems, they have slowly made their way into a number of other devices, including some storage and media servers designed for home users. Such is the case with one of the latest products from Taipei, Taiwan-based QNAP Systems, which
is designed to take advantage of Intel's Atom platform to provide consumers with a low-power network-attached storage. The new TS-239 Pro Turbo NAS can support a maximum of 4TB of storage space, through two 2TB hard disk drives.

“The Intel Atom-based TS-239 Pro Turbo NAS is an excellent network storage option for small business and SOHO users who require a power-saving and silent server that has to be turned on day and night. The NAS supports two 2TB hard drives and can be configured for storage expansion or backup server of other servers with the built-in iSCSI target service. It is a high competitive alternative for setting up an IP-SAN (Storage Area Network) in a small business environment,” says Jerry Deng, Product Manager from QNAP.

QNAP's new TS-239 Pro Turbo NAS is equipped with a 1.6GHz Atom processor and 1GB of DDR2 RAM. The system can be equipped with two 3.5-inch SATA hard disk drives, featured with two hot-swappable and lockable trays. Additional features include two Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet ports, three USB 2.0 ports, two eSATA ports, LED indicators for the first and second HDD, LAN, eSATA, Status and USB.

Featuring a tower form factor and a 7cm quiet cooling fan, the QNAP TS-239 Pro Turbo NAS comes in at a gross weight close to 3kg. Unfortunately, the Taiwanese company is yet to make available the details related to the NAS' pricing and availability.
