3.5-inch hard drive-based network storage solution

Taiwan-based QNAP Systems, one of the world's leading vendors of Network Attached Storage (NAS) servers, has announced today the launch of its new NMP-1000 network multimedia player. Designed as a combination of an NAS server and a set-top box, QNAP's new multimedia player can enable users to storage and manage their photos, videos and music libraries through an easy-to-use user interface. Compatible with all of today's major operating systems, the NMP-1000 comes as an interesting choice for HTPC and multimedia enthusiasts.

“QNAP's ground-breaking NMP-1000 Network Multimedia Player is the definitive product that bridges the gap between the home network and the living room.” said Meiji Chang, CEO of QNAP Systems, Inc. “Users are clamoring to centrally store and enjoy all their digital content in the living room and the NMP-1000 just fits the bill.” he added.

The new QNAP multimedia player is powered by a Sigma SMP8635 processor and features support for a single 3.5-inch SATA hard disk drive, with a maximum capacity of 2TB. The unit also features an Ethernet RJ-45 Gigabit port, VFD display, two USB 2.0 ports, one eSATA port and a range of A/V outputs, including HMI v1.3a, component, composite video, S-Video, analog stereo out, S/PDIF optical and coaxial.

According to the Taiwanese company, the NMP-1000 is designed to provide users with support for a full multimedia experience, while the wired Ethernet connection enables the device to connect to popular sites such as Flickr and YouTube and allow the end-user to browse through some of the latest digital pictures and videos, with the help of a convenient remote control. In addition, the drive can also be used as a regular NAS device, enabling users to back up and share digital content across the home network.

Unfortunately, there are no details regarding the pricing of the de NMP-1000, but the company claims that the device is already available worldwide.
