On May 22, Softpedia was informed by the developer of Q4OS, a small distribution of GNU/Linux that uses the old-school KDE3 desktop environment and was designed for low-end computers, that the distro reached version 1.2.2.

The biggest feature of the Q4OS 1.2.2 release is the addition of a new Software Centre application that promises to allow users to manage software package in the distribution much more easily than with traditional methods.

Shortly, the Software Centre app will also include an option that enables users to buy proprietary/commercial applications directly from the publisher's website and make it easy for them to install those apps in the Q4OS distribution.

"We introduce the new 'Software Centre' in this version, now it makes management of free applications much easier," said Q4OS devs for Softpedia. "We plan an important option for the Software Centre, which would allow direct purchasing of non-free applications and installing them in Q4OS seamlessly."

Another interesting feature implemented in the Q4OS 1.2.2 release is the completion of various Welcome Screen translations. The developers wish to thank the external team of translators from all over the world for their excellent work.

Various bugs have been fixed in this release

As usual, the new Q4OS maintenance release also brings some under-the-hood improvements and addresses bugs that have been reported by users or discovered by the Q4OS development team since the previous release of the distribution.

You can download Q4OS 1.2.2 right now from Softpedia, but existing users should check their installation for an update in the coming days, as the new changes mentioned above will be pushed via the automatic update process.

After the update, you will find the new Software Centre application installed, so make sure that you get used to it if you plan on installing additional software packages or remove existing ones.
