If you haven't been keeping track, Acer has been going a bit downhill in terms of finances lately, for several consecutive quarters actually. It is this that kept pushing it lower on the worldwide top PC makers list (the one
Lenovo is almost ready to lead).
One reason was Acer's reliance on netbooks and these laptops' fast popularity decline after tablets showed up.
It didn't help that the netbook segment itself was mostly saturated and that more performance wasn't exactly a strong selling point for new models.
Now, with ultrabooks sales supposedly going as expected, and with the focus on value (
announced back in April) seemingly working, the last quarter of 2011 may finally return a profit.
Acer may be aiming to do with ultrabooks what it did with netbooks and become one of the primary suppliers of such things just as
lower prices make their sales skyrocket (assuming that actually happens).
