Thanks to a fellow named DjayB6, a tethered jailbreak of the latest iOS software is available via PwnageTool and a bunch of other ingredients, according to a step-by-step guide posted online this past weekend. The only unsupported device by this hack seems to be the second-generation iPad.

Released just days ago, iOS 4.3.1 is the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system powering iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch devices.

The new release focuses on fixing a number of bugs, some specific to certain devices.

Although not documented by Apple in the release notes, iOS 4.3.1 also seems to be fixing battery life issues for some customers, but these reports are yet to be fully confirmed.

For those who enjoy the benefits of wielding a jailbroken device, a few hacks are detailed in a thorough guide which informs iOS fans that jailbreaking iOS 4.3.1 with the currently available methods is no picnic.

Reportedly, users need to employ PwnageTool 4.2, a stock iOS 4.3.1 IPSW software file, iTunes 10.2.1 (the latest version), a computer running Mac OS X, PwnageTool bundle for iOS 4.3.1, Universal Ramdisk Fixer, and tetheredboot utility.

A few notes are dished out by the folks responsible for the iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak guide, including an important piece of information regarding baseband unlocks.

Basically, this method of jailbreaking iOS 4.3.1 does not provide an unlock, but it does preserve the baseband, they say.

The advice is “DO NOT update to stock iOS 4.3.1” for those planning to unlock their iPhone or iPad 3G.

The iPad 2 is also not supported, but Cydia is fully working on iOS 4.3.1 for devices supported by this hack.

Cydia has been updated recently to version 1.1 which brings a few important improvements, including better search algorithms, and a resume function if the app crashes.

Finally, hacktivation is supported, according to the people who’ve tried out the hack.

This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that you should hack your Apple device.

Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience employing the respective device.

If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
