A guide to jailbreaking iPhone 3G on iOS 4.1 with PwnageTool has been published online. The method involves patching PwnageTool 4.01 so that it can identify iOS 4.1 for iPhone 3G.

The tutorial in question reveals that “PwnageTool bundle for iPhone 3G running final version of iOS 4.1 has been released.”

It has fully working Cydia and it also supports hacktivation, meaning the phone can still be unlocked (unlike iOS 4.2 bundle for iPhone 3GS, the authors note).

The current version of Redsn0w, another jailbreak tool, reportedly has issues (breaks phone app, Cydia doesn’t work etc.), therefore jailbreakers are being offered the PwnageTool 4.01 “bundle” method to hack their 3G handsets under iOS 4.1, while preserving their baseband “so that you can unlock your phone later with Ultrasn0w.”

According to the source, the guide for patching PwnageTool with Pwnage bundle is similar to the ones published for iOS 4.2, and iOS 4.0.

Jailbreakers are being told that they can follow those guides to patch PwnageTool 4.01 to make it recognize the iOS 4.1 IPSW targeting iPhone 3G handsets.

The iPhone Dev Team is yet to make an official announcement regarding a clean jailbreak of the final iOS 4.1 release from Apple.

The Team’s latest announcement actually advises iPhone owners against installing the new software, since it upgrades the phone’s baseband.

“Please stay away from this 4.1 release until a safe jailbreak procedure (which also preserves ultrasn0w) is developed and released,” the infamous team of hackers said earlier this month.

Softpedia doesn't encourage jailbreaking / unlocking the iPhone / iPod touch / iPad, or any other device.

This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that you should hack your Apple device.

Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience employing the respective device.

If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
