Updated Redsn0w also available, fixes reported bug

The trusty folks at the iPhone Dev Team have rolled out an updated version of the popular, Mac-only jailbreak utility, PwnageTool. Version 5.0.1 provides an untethered jailbreak for all the devices supported by yesterday’s Redsn0w release.

Compatible with iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4-CDMA, iPad 1, iPod touch 3G, and iPod touch 4G, PwnageTool 5.0.1 is now available via BitTorrent download on the iPhone Dev Team’s blog.

The Team was supposed to post a slew of download mirrors as well, to allow people to get to the DMG file directly, but the links are nowhere in sight. Perhaps they’ve been removed for some undocumented issue.

And there’s also a new version of Redsn0w to be downloaded by jailbreak fans. Apparently, this new build fixes a problem that users reported shortly after the release of redsn0w 0.9.10b1.

According to the team of hackers, “The b2 version of redsn0w includes the launchctl-related fix by @planetbeing as mentioned by @saurik here and here” (with the actual post containing the necessary links).

“As usual, you can just re-run redsn0w in jailbreak mode over your existing 5.0.1 jailbreak (even a PwnageTool one), making sure to de-select ‘Install Cydia’ if you do,” the updated blog post reads.

The iPhone Dev tinkerers advise jailbreakers to make sure they do a proper shut down of their device via “slide to power off” before running redsn0w. Download links are then provided for both Mac and Windows users.

There is also a Cydia package prepared by the Chronic Dev Team which untethers an existing iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak. It’s called Corona and it weighs in at 100MB.

For those using a hybrid 5.0/5.0.1 configuration… “do not attempt to install this untether over that setup! You will most likely get into a reboot cycle. Do a sync and fresh restore to 5.0.1 then install the jailbreak + untether,” says the Dev Team.
