Soon after the launch of iOS 4, the internationally known iPhone Dev Team released updated jailbreak and unlock tools for owners of supported devices. iOS 4 can be installed on iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 2G, and iPod touch 3G with 32GB and 64GB. Those looking to jailbreak their second-generation iPod touch are now free to do so using the Dev Team’s PwnageTool 4.01, the hackers said in a post on their blog.

“If you have an iPod touch 2G (non-MC model) that is jailbroken (but not with Spirit) then you can restore using recovery mode,” the code-savvy crew wrote earlier this week. This meant that owners of a second-generation iPod touch could employ the latest version of PwnageTool to create a custom (jailbroken) iOS 4 IPSW. Users would use PwnageTool to get their device in DFU state, and then selectively restore to the new IPSW using iTunes.

“As an alternative to PwnageTool, you can use redsn0w on non-MC iPod Touch 2G (on both Windows and Mac) as mentioned in our last post,” the Team added. Redsn0w can jailbreak iOS 4 for iPhone 3G units, and second-generation iPod touches, according to the Team. Prior to the redsn0w 0.9.5b5-3 update, the hackers said that those who relied on hacktivation or a carrier unlock (ultrasn0w) should not upgrade until they’d fully tested and released their tools.

This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that you should hack your Apple device. If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
