Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords is a video game developed by the Australian company Infinite Interactive and published by D3 Publisher. It was first released for the Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable and then ported to other platforms like the Xbox 360, Windows, PlayStation 2 and even the iPhone and iPod touch handheld systems.
The game, which combines a Bejeweled-like puzzle system with role playing elements and strategy, was released on March 16, 2007, in Europe, March 20 in North America and last but not least, September 27, the same year in Japan. The playfield resembles the very popular Bejeweled but also features new things and activities similar to role playing games.
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords has a story based in the Warlords universe, as the title suggests, in which players assume the role of a character with different attributes and statistics like combat ability, morale or magical affinity. You can determine the value of such statistics by choosing one of the four professions at the start of the game. The player progresses through the story by fulfilling main quests and can also gain more experience and gold by completing side quests.
Gold can be used by the player to buy new equipment which offers bonuses in battles or can also be invested in building up a citadel that unlocks new content and customization options for the player. The map used in the game is a simple one, with each location connected by roads and foes that periodically appear on them. Key quest locations are also marked on the map, which are populated with enemies you have to defeat.
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords was a huge hit, as it received a lot of favorable reviews from gaming critics and analysts. The PSP version was congratulated on the great looks, while the DS version gained positive marks for the use of the touch screen in battles.
UNLOCKABLES
Alternate ending sequence
Free the Sorcerer that Darkhunter asks you to take to the Red Tower near the start of the game to unlock three new areas at the end of the game.
HINTS
Easy HP
Create a knight and train it to level 40 with high fire mastery. Fire mastery can be increased by getting some special items, such as Rune Items. Make sure you can hold at least 48 Fire Mana. Capure a Fire Elemental and research the spell "Fire Siphon." The spell Chivalry is also required. You can learn it at level 40. Select those two spells so that you can cast them. Start a battle and check the resistance of your enemy. It is best if their resistance is 0%. First, cast Chivalry. It will remove effects such as like Poison and will raise your and your enemy's Mana to the maximum. In your next turn, cast Fire Siphon. This will drain your enemy's red Mana and add it to your life points (not your maximum life points).
