Puzzle Quest 2 is finally making its way on the PC, after the June release on the Nintendo DS and the Xbox 360. The title will launch on the 12th of August on Steam, with pre-purchases available now for a 10 percent discount, from 20 dollars to 18 dollars in North America and from 16 Euro to 14,40 Euro. Puzzle Quest 2 is a bit cheaper on XBLA, downloadable for 1200 Microsoft Points, that is 15 dollars.

The game is a follow-up to the very successful Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, featuring the same blend of role playing adventure and match-three Bejeweled style of gameplay. Players choose from four character classes, War Mage, Inquisitor, Barbarian or Assassin and embark on quest to save the village of Verloren from the demon Gorgon. The combat takes place on a screen in which they must match three or more gems for mana, skulls for damage and other bonus tiles for money or experience.

As the character levels-up, various spells become available, both offensive and defensive, as well as increases in damage dealing and mana collecting. Puzzle Quest 2 adds more gems, spells, weapons as well as different mini-games that allow players to unlock treasures. Besides the story campaign, three other modes are available, that is Instant Action, Tournament and Multiplayer. Puzzle Quest 2 has had a pretty positive critical reception in terms of review scores.

“Puzzle Quest is an award winning franchise with numerous accolades including an Interactive Achievement Award for ‘Best Downloadable Game of the Year’ for Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords,” said Peter Andrew, vice president of product development at D3 Publisher in a press release. “Puzzle Quest 2 returns with a captivating, rewarding, and accessible journey for gamers of all levels as the ultimate delivery system for the mental release puzzle gamers seek.”
