14 DAY TRIAL // Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto has just announced a new title for 3DS, Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition. The game will be released in Japan on April 29 for 4,000 yen ($34 / €28), both in retail and digital format.
Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition will be launched overseas as well, but the date has yet to be announced.
The game is a collaboration between Nintendo and GungHo Online Entertainment, the Japanese company well-known for their mobile game Puzzle & Dragons and 2DS title Ragnarok DS.
Myiamoto said that he was pleasantly surprised by GungHo's “work ethic” after he noticed some of Nintendo's employers playing Puzzle & Dragons.
Although at that time discussions were going another route (Puzzle & Dragons Z), Miyamoto said that they had finally decided that Mario was worth more than being a guest character in a 3DS game.
Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition is aimed at Mario franchise fans and will support StreetPass and local multiplayer functionality, GungHo confirmed.

Along with the announcement of the upcoming game, some details on the story have been unveiled as well. Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition is a “puzzle RPG” game, which should start in the Mushroom Kingdom where Bowser has harvested the power of a mysterious “Drop.”
As expected, Mario will have to find and save the Princess Peach who is kidnapped at the beginning of the game. The battles in the upcoming game will strongly resemble the combat mechanics of Puzzle & Dragons, hence the name.
During his adventure to save the Princess Peach, Mario will meet up with other beloved characters appearing in other games in the franchise.
Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition is likely to be another Nintendo success, so now it remains to be seen when folks outside Japan will be able to get their hand on it. Is it going to be April as well or a few months later?
