Apple could be developing a dedicated iWatch sidekick app

Purported iOS 8 screen-grabs collected from various Twitter accounts (possibly tied to Apple testers) show a strange app icon dubbed “Watch Utility,” suggesting Apple has plans to incorporate a dedicated sidekick app for users of iWatch + iPhone.

While the iWatch will most certainly deserve its own utility app on the iPhone’s home screen, it could be that these so-called leaked screenshots are showing nothing but a fake app icon commissioned by someone looking to cause some stir (and possibly some page views).

Published by phonearena.com in two consecutive rounds, the two images show a slightly different Watch Utility app icon, almost as if Apple has iterated the design to a flatter look in the “second coming.” The images are in all likelihood fakes, but it’s also important that we cover every leak that can potentially indicate Apple’s future plans.

Making the leak look somewhat truthful, the confirmed Healthbook app also appears in these screenshots. Healthbook is also said to integrate with the upcoming iWatch, but does not rely on the wearable device completely. The app reportedly gathers information from sensors, including motion from the the M7 chip inside the iPhone 5s.

Healthbook is a tentpole feature of the upcoming iOS 8, according to reports. Apple could unveil it as soon as WWDC (June 2).
