Even if as of late, everyone’s attention has been attracted by new Intel’s Bay Trail CPUs, the ones destined to go into really cheap Android slates, low-cost chip manufacturers like Rockchip and Allwinner have something to show too.

The new Rockchip RK3288 and Allwinner A80 UltraOcta processors have been made official. We also know the two platforms will go into tablets, but so far we don’t know their names or which companies will be manufacturing them.

Its highly possible these tablets will launch in the upcoming months, but as we wait, the first clues indicating prototypes running the chips are being tested have emerged.

Chinese manufacturers are going to be the first adopters of these chips, but taking into account the trend on the market, we might see the SoC being taken up by Western brand vendors too.

For the moment, we know Onda will be taking up the Allwinner A80 UltraOcta processor and iFive will be building a tablet around the quad-core Rockchip RK3288 SoC.

Notebook Italia shows Onda has teased an image detailing two upcoming tablets, one with a 7-8-inch display and the other with 9-10-inch. Both seem to have a sleek and slim design and come in black and white versions.

On the other hand, the Rockchip RK3288 iFive tablet looks reminiscent of the iFive Mini 3, but with a narrower bezel and very slim design.

Furthermore, two unnamed tablets running the above-mentioned two chips have been spotted in the lofty GFX-Bench database. So, we can assume these are the same products we have been detailing above.

The good news is, the benchmark listing provides us with a glimpse into the specs of the first UltraOcta processor tablets.

The tablet with Allwinner A80 UltraOcta clocked at 1.8GHz (PowerVR Rogue) should have a 7-inch display (1280 x 800 pixel resolution). The slate should be fitted with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory and run Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box.

On the other hand, the quad-core Rockchip RK3288 (ARM Mali T760) should arrive with a larger 9.4-inch screen (1280 x 800 pixel resolution) combined with 2GB of RAM and running the same Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box.

Out of these two models, we’re certainly going to look out on the Onda tablet, although we’d like to see a better resolution on the tablet, to make things more interesting. Hopefully, by the time it launches, the Onda will boast a full HD display.
