Pure Wants to Reinvent Racing

- Coming to the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC

By: Andrei Dumitrescu, Games Editor

Pure is a racing game coming from Black Rock Studio (which, under various names, has created MotoGp and ATV Offroad Fury) and it’s coming out on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The developers are billing it as an "off-road trick racing game", which might sound a bit weird but apparently it's what
people want.

The game will focus on performing tricks on your vehicle as you try to fill out a "juice" bubble. As you perform better and better tricks, you get access to a wider array of moves that you can perform. As you advance on the tricks scale, you eventually reach a point where the moves that you can pull are no longer realistic, but spectacular and cinematic in the way they fling you through the air only to see you back down on the ground safely.

There are three different game modes: Race, Sprint and Freestyle, and the names themselves are pretty self-explanatory. The developer says there are 50 events in the game and 10 tours that you need to complete to finish the game. 6 characters are available at the beginning and a seventh one will be unlocked later on.

The Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 versions of the game are said to be the same, if developer Jason Acent is to be believed. He says that the game is being optimized to look equally good on both consoles. Speaking to Eurogamer, he said that "Now we've got them both running and 30 frames per second is our target. It does dip down, but we've got months to optimize it. We do side-by-side comparisons just like you guys do".

Apparently, the developer also has some ideas regarding a Nintendo Wii version of the game, but he says that such an endeavor would take time and resources that the team does not currently have because of the need to simultaneously launch the game on other three platforms.
