Quirky, a Linux distribution from the “Puppy Linux family” that is used to introduce new ideas and applications, has now reached version 5.5 RC.

This version of Quirky, 5.5 RC, is built on Linux kernel 3.8, which provides support for f2fs (Flash Friendly File System). The installation itself is a little tricky, but the developer explains it extensively.

“To create a f2fs filesystem in a partition, you will need the 'mkfs.f2fs' utility, that I did not include in the build -- it is in the 'f2fs-tools' PET package, that can be found in the 'common' repository in the Puppy Package Manager -- or just download it directly, then click on it to install it,” states the official announcement.

More details about this bleeding edge release of Puppy can be found in the official blog post.

Download Quirky 5.5 RC right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a beta version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
