Berry Kauler, the father of the Puppy Linux project, has announced on April 2nd that Puppy Linux 5.2.5 has been launched and is available for download.

Puppy Linux 5.2.5  is the second update this year, this version being release only two months later. It has over 50 contributors, making it one of the most worked on distributions out there.

According to the official announcement the  architecture of this distro has remained “pure” Puppy which means that most of the libraries, applications and utilities are Ubuntu binaries.

Puppy Linux 5.2.5 also incorporates the latest  Wary Puppy, recently released by Barry Kauler, which brings the advantages of Puppy to vintage hardware, was also built with Woof, using compiled T2 binaries.

“One of the innovative features of Lucid Puppy is Quickpet, a multi-purpose tool to install additional software, diagnose and install advanced graphics, and open LupuNews with its several tabs of Tips and Tricks and Instant Updates”, the official announcement states.

According to the developers, “it has Bash 4.1.0, Syslinux 4.03, and e2fsprogs 1.41.14, the latest from Ubuntu Natty. It now has JWM 500, up from 493. Gnumeric 1.10.13 is a necessity because our forum member yarddog had posted a bug to Gnumeric that is corrected in 1.0.13. Lucid 5.2.5 uses the Woof of FEB 28 replacing the Woof of NOV 28 for 3 months of progress in Woof development.”.

Lucid Puppy is dubbed Woof and it is fully compatible with the Ubuntu software repositories, allowing users to install any application or package that is available in the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) operating system.

Puppy Linux is approximately 125 MB in size, and comes with all drivers built-in for scanning and printing, digital camera, audio recording/editing/conversion. Also, it has a complete office environment and a large collection of utilities.
