First maintenance release of Puppy 4.1

It appears that Barry Kauler, the father of Puppy Linux, is still in charge of the development of Puppy, as he has just announced today the immediate availability of the first maintenance release of Puppy Linux 4.1. Puppy Linux 4.1.1 is just a minor bugfix version that also includes some small improvements. Here's what has changed since the 4.1 release:

· Better mouse detection; · Touchpad tapping support; · Added ability to load extra SFS files; · Added DVB USB firmware; · Added old Network Wizard; · Added GPRS message; · Renamed and realigned the desktop drive icon; · Added the ability to check dependencies of installed PET packages; · ALSA shutdown; · Improved support for wide screen resolutions; · Improved remaster-CD; · Network setup fixes, in particular for wireless (including ndiswrapper).

Below is a complete list will all the features brought by Puppy Linux 4.1:

· Two ISOs available (one with Linux kernel 2.6.25.16 and the other one with 2.6.21.7); · Lots of hardware drivers; · Built-in SCSI drivers; · The 2.6.25.16 kernel is LZMA-enabled; · PCMCIA support; · Improved boot speed; · Pup_event, a new service that detects more hardware components than before; · SeaMonkey 1.1.11; · Multitech USB GPRS modem support; · Better modem support; · Psip VOIP, Puppy Linux's own VOIP chat/telephone/instant messenger software; · PPLOG blog, Puppy Linux's own blog; · Pmusic, Puppy Linux's own audio player; · Xfprot, f-prot GUI (virus checker).

Puppy Linux is approximately 95 MB in size, and comes with all drivers built-in for scanning and printing, digital camera, audio recording/editing/conversion. Also, it has a complete office environment and a large collection of utilities.
