A new USB 3.0 flash drive unit has been released, one that is both very small and very fast, at least when it comes to reading data.

Called Mushkin Atom USB 3.0, it can have capacities of 8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB.

The 8 GB unit can read and write data at 80 MB/s and 5.5 MB/s, respectively.

On the 16 GB drive, the rates go higher, to 155 MB/s and 11.5 MB/s.

Finally, the 32 GB Atom USB 3.0 achieves 155 MB/s and 21.5 MB/s.

All in all, not bad for something that is barely larger than the USB port itself. NAND Flash memory really has become compact lately.

Needless to say, the Mushkin Atom USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 interfaces. Prices have yet to be announced though.
