May actually turn out to be more irritating than helpful

The new idea that showed up on Yanko Design may not be the best there ever was and will probably become obsolete by the time it becomes eligible for adoption.

Over the years, various strange devices have been invented or at least envisioned, most of which, for better or worse, never became more than an idea.

What now emerged on Yanko Design is a power outlet that can automatically disconnect a plug.

Presumably, this would prevent energy waste brought about by consumer electronics when turned off.

It is well known that many devices in user homes continue to draw energy for as long as they are plugged into a power source.

Even when shut off, many still leech small amounts of energy, increasing power bills and basically wasting natural resources.

The PumPing Tap outlet is supposed to solve this problem for good by pushing out the plug ten minutes after the device it powers has been turned off.

A blue light around the outside of the plug shows that something is drawing power.

Once that device is deactivated, the ring turns red and waits ten minutes, after which a small circle pops out of the center and throws out the plug in the process.

Alas, while phantom power reduction is always something desirable, this method may not be the best.

After all, if there is anything users want nowadays, that is to make sure cables are as well hidden from view as possible.

This means that cables and outlets are often concealed behind desks or couches, or other pieces of furniture.

Needless to say, no one will want to turn their houses upside down just because they need to shove the plug back in.

It would be more practical for a designer or company to invent some sort of switch on the cable itself, or just make it so that electronics don't draw any power at all during downtime.
