Alphonso Labs, the team behind the popular news reader Pulse, has just announced the update of the Android version with new content sources and improved sharing with social feeds and news discovery features.

In addition, the major update improves the application's overall performance and makes browsing news from websites and social networks much faster.

Pulse 2.0 has three times more sources and enables users to personalize their mobile news reading experience by selecting up to 60 news sources across five customizable pages. As a side note, the previous version of the application only had 20 news sources available.

Additionally, the new design of the application is now optimized for organizing and viewing sources on a smaller screen.

The new update introduces the Personalized News feature, which offers users the option to select a “pack” to auto-populate an entire page with the top sources for politics, finance, sports and more.

Also, Pulse 2.0 for Android features more social content from Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, Digg, Reddit and Hacker News. Users will be able to like, share and comment on items in their Facebook news feed from within Pulse.

The Sharing Tools feature has been improved, as the application integrates Facebook, Twitter and email sharing contextually within each story, providing users with one click sharing.

Search has also been enhanced, as results now include the app's most popular news feeds with more relevant titles and descriptions.

According to the developer, the application is now three times faster than the previous version, which means that sources update and images load faster. Scrolling is smoother and more fluid, as well.

The application offers users the option to save stories read offline and sync them to Google Reader when the app goes online.

Pulse 2.0 for Android is available as a free download from Android Market. The application is compatible with all devices running Android 1.5 OS or later.
