Satoru Iwata, who is the president of gaming company Nintendo, has stated that he sees more interest for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS handheld from third party publishers than he experienced for the original DS platform when it was released.

The executive talked about how the platform will be welcomed video game wise during a talk with investors after the company announced its financial results.

Satoru Iwata has said, “I often travel abroad, so I have many opportunities to ask people in our subsidiaries about what our overseas software publishers think about Nintendo 3DS, and I know they have much stronger interest in it than when Nintendo DS was about to be launched.”

He added, “To say the least, our overseas publishers are not taking a passive approach to Nintendo 3DS at all. In fact, it is safe for you to think that they have been fairly proactive in thinking about this new hardware from the start.”

At the moment publishers like Electronic Arts, Activision Blizzard, Take Two, Ubisoft, THQ and Konami have announced video games for the Nintendo 3DS and as the launch date approaches more titles are set to be announced.

The Nintendo 3DS handheld is significant because it will allow gamers to experience full three dimensional video game without asking them to use unwieldy specialized glasses.

The device was announced by Nintendo at the beginning of the year and was expected to be released in Japan late this year, but the company has officially announced that it will first go on sale on February 26, 2011 on the home market.

Gamers in the United States and in Europe will have to wait about one more month to get the Nintendo 3DS.

Nintendo needs the new device to be a success, especially in the light of falling sales of the original DS platform and strong support from publishers is crucial.
