Sofia Vergara, one of the most beautiful, smart and funny women on television right now, is also an unofficial “spokesperson” for curves. It wasn't always like that, she says in a new interview, recalling a time when she was told to get a breast reduction.

The mother of one, famous for her curvy body, refusal to get plastic surgery on the face and for her honesty on such matters, recently sat down with Health magazine to talk a bit about how her life has changed in the past couple of years.

The topic of plastic surgery also came up, in a context in which more female stars her age feel pressured into going under the knife to still be able to get roles.

Sofia hasn't succumbed to pressure yet, she tells the magazine. However, when she first moved to the US, she came very close to doing that, she recalls.

“When I moved to America, I was more voluptuous, and I felt a little different. And one time, years ago, I remember my publicist [at the time] told me, 'I think you should just reduce your [breasts] because nobody’s going to take you seriously here',” the actress says.

“My mother almost had a heart attack. She was like, 'God is going to punish you! You can’t cut your [breasts]!' I don’t regret not doing it, because now it’s become a big part of Gloria [from Modern Family],” Sofia adds.

She jokes that the only thing that stopped her from getting the breast reduction surgery was her mother's threat that she'll be punished by God; otherwise, she would have done it.

On a more serious note, Sofia says she's not against plastic surgery, despite what reports in the media are saying, based on her previous comments.

“I’m not against it at all. But I think that you should go into it more thinking that you want to look beautiful than trying to look young,” she says.

“Because I don’t really think that plastic surgery can make you look young. It can make you look prettier, but if you go with the mentality of being young, I think that’s where accidents can happen,” she adds.
