The affordable carrier Public Mobile has just announced it will launch its first Android smartphone within the next few days, namely the ZTE N762 and Max.

Although the network operator has yet to reveal the phones' price tag, it is likely that both will hit shelves for under $200 (150 EUR). Obviously, customers will need to sign up for a data plan.

These are affordable smartphones that run Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform and feature a 600 MHz processor inside.

Both are packed with rear cameras, built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth, microSD card for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2 GB memory included), and capacitive touchscreen displays.

It is also worth mentioning that the ZTE N762 comes with a slightly larger 3.5-inch display and a 2-megapixel rear camera, wheras the "Max" has a secondary front-facing camera.

Actually the talk/text plan which includes unlimited data is just $30/mo, which includes unlimited provincewide long distance, international (!) text and 5 features including Call Display. In the interest of full disclosure, I do work for Public Mobile.

I just signed up with Public after being dissapoited with Wind, over coverage. Although both companies show my home withing the coverage area, I do not get any signal inside my house. Planning on returning Public & cancelling Wind.

I am with Public Mobile and I have the N762. I do love it although I must admit that it's my first smart phone so I don't really know any better. From what I can tell though, compared to my best friend's Samsung Galaxy (which he paid a small fortune for and has Bell owning his * for 3 years), it seems to be able to do everything that the Galaxy can. The 3.5" screen is smaller but the phone is smaller overall as well so it's much easier to carry and it feels more or less the same to use. The N762 is a bit slower than the Galaxy but nowhere near enough to dampen the android experience. All in all, for $79, you cannot go wrong with this phone. I'm very satisfied.
