At the 2012 edition of the ISE trade show, Prysm showcased a new example of its unique display technology, LPD, short for Laser Phosphor Display.

This year's edition of the Integrated Systems Europe show took place in Amsterdam between January 31 and February 2, 2012.

It so happens that Prysm made an appearance, showcasing new LPD panels, as well as the new Digital Kiosk made of ten 25-inch TDI video wall tiles.

The tiles were arranged in a 2 x 5 configuration and demonstrated new multi-touch and gesture input support.

“The Close Proximity Panel has extreme colour temperature settings ranging from as low as 2,400 - 11,000 Kelvin,” explained Roger Hajjar, Prysm’s founder and chief technology officer.

“The range in colour temperature makes Prysm’s newest displays ideal for creating stunning backdrops and live correspondence screens. The panels have been specifically designed for performance in lighting situations used in broadcast studios, as the panels eliminate moire patterns and ensure skin tones are portrayed accurately and in line with the presenters in the studio.”

Prysm's LPD display is a unique and highly versatile technology, yet strangely unknown despite having been announced way back at the start of 2010.

When they answered some question for us (see this interview), the company explained how LPDs could be used to make very bright, wide-angle screens (178-degrees) of any size, shape and resolution (that means precisely what it sounds like).

The panels also consume up to 75% less energy than projectors and other displays, since they do not use any sort of backlight.

So far, though, the technology has refrained from going beyond the confines of large-format applications (airports, retail, etc.).

“Aside from our configurable display panels, the LPD technology platform is flexible and able to meet various application needs including brightness, panel size, and panel resolution. The development of the Close Proximity Panel makes Prysm even more suitable for broadcast, interactive retail and corporate applications,” said the CEO.
