Apple scrapped the design at the last minute, ended up with leather cases instead

A new leak indicates that Apple had set its mind to release a silicone protective case for the iPhone 5s, similar to the one it sells for the iPhone 5c.

Some people find the “Croc” iPhone 5c case hideous, and I don’t blame them. I’m not a fan myself, though I do believe it still has some style. It’s just not the Apple style I’ve gotten used to over the years.

Michael Andrew writes on his blog, “A couple days ago, a source within Apple agreed – very kindly – to pass on one of prototype cases to me. This case, if Apple had decided to release the iPhone 5/5S version of the iPhone 5C case, would’ve had been in its final stages of being a prototype, just right before the mass production.”

Such a case could be easily manufactured into an Apple leak, but at the same time I can’t be too skeptical about its veracity either. After all, Apple ended up shipping one that looks exactly the same, give or take a few extra holes.
