A smartphone case designed with a finger strap

Jonathan Marcus has launched a modest but at the same time ambitious Kickstarter campaign to equip iPhone owners worldwide with a strap case that prevents accidental drops.

You may find the solution silly, but we can assure you that’s only because of prejudice. Leave other people’s impression aside and what you’re left with is perhaps the most ergonomic, comfortable, and efficient solution to protecting your iDevice and keeping it from falling to the ground.

Polycarbonate case & finger strap for 20 bucks

A smartphone case designed with a finger strap, Neverdrop not only protects the device from dings and scratches but also prevents you from dropping it in the first place. You can hold the phone and carry the groceries at the same time, as the photos below will reveal.

It doesn’t prevent you from using the phone like before, and “allows complete device control with a relaxed grip, easing strain on the hand and improving device usability,” according to the man behind the project, Jonathan Marcus. The front edge is raised a bit, so even if you do happen to drop it, the glass will not touch the concrete.

The strap is adjustable and interchangeable. Customers can opt for a black or white case and straps in blue, green, red, orange, and black.

20% of the funding goal will go toward computerized strap sewing to improve the quality of the straps, while 70% will be used for the first production run using injection molds. According to the creators, “this will allow us to offer better quality, more affordable Neverdrop cases to our Backers.” Finally, the remainder 10% will be split between Kickstarter and Amazon (for fees).

Available for iPhone 4 / 4s / 5 / 5s / 6 / 6 Plus

The promotional video on Kickstarter uses an old-generation iPhone, but the creators assure backers that the cases can be manufactured to fit any iPhone starting with the iPhone 4 and ending with the 6 Plus.

For $20 (€16), you’ll get to choose your colors and you can expect the thing to ship sometime in January 2015. The makers will ship the cases anywhere in the world. No word on whether the $20 (€16) price also includes shipping, but if it does, it’s a bargain.

Cases remain some of the most popular iPhone accessories, and such a case should make perfect sense for iPhone 6 Plus owners who use their smartphone a lot and are afraid to drop them. And if you still think the Neverdrop is ridiculous, think of the price you paid for the iPhone 6 you’re clutching with such great care and attention. Not imagine its screen shattered. That’s right.
