Track your handset through GPS

Phone Guardian, developed by SymbianGuru, is one of the most useful security applications that protect your handset from theft. The software protects the phone with a password, locks/unlocks the device remotely, and allows you to receive a message when a SIM card of the device has been changed and to track the thief not only using Cell ID triangulation, but also GPS coordinates (only if your phone includes a built-in GPS receiver).

The installation of the software can be done through Nokia PC Suite synchronization, Bluetooth or IrDA connections. Before installing Phone Guardian, you will be asked if you want to install it with an application icon or without it. You can decide to do it with both options, or only with one of them. The application can be initiated from the application menu, by clicking on its icon, or by dialing the activation number (default "12345"). After launching it, you'll be invited to enter a new password that you should remember, as the trial key cannot be recovered in case you forgot it. If you buy the product but forget this password, you can unlock the software by dialing the registration key. After entering the required password, you will have access to the main menu page.

The first option that you can turn on/off is Guard Active. When it's turned on, it will lock the phone or will activate the anti-thief function. When the latter is active, the application will gather information regarding the phone's IMEI number and the SIM card IMSI, but also GPS coordinates in case your phone features one. The information is then sent to the numbers defined in "Send Alarm SMS to...," when the SIM card is changed or Lock SMS is received. Phone Guardian also has the option to emit a siren.
The next option that you can use, Lock Modes, has three available settings: on SIM change, on lock SMS, and both modes active. The developer of the security application recommends that both options be active. The 5-day trial version can be used by entering the default password "12345," after which the product must be registered. Phone Guardian can be acquired for $12.99 USD.
