If you are one of those MMO players who are worried about getting their account hacked and all their precious online gold and stuff taken away, then it must be nice for you to know that you can secure your account via a device that generates a unique password each time you log into the game. Now, Square Enix is saying that it plans to add support fort the Vasco Digipass in its MMO
Final Fantasy XI.
The new options will be offered to players on April 7, when the Vasco made Digipass GO6 can be used to secure the Final Fantasy XI account of any player. Access will only be allowed by use of the unique, one-time password that the device generates. It does not matter on which platform you play the MMO created by Square Enix. The solution is already used by Blizzard to cut down on cases of account hacking in World of Warcraft. It was initially offered in June 2008.
Square Enix announced its account protection features just as in Japan the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications stated that no less than 2,289 cases of “fraudulent access to online services” were registered in 2008, which is an increase of more than a quarter over 2007. Fraud linked to MMOs and hacking accounts is the second most prevalent infraction linked to fraudulent access to online services. So, if you want to be protected, get a Vasco device and link it to your World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XI accounts.
Jan Valcke, who is the president and Chief Operation Officer for Vasco, stated that “In the light of growing concerns about online fraud involving online games, online auctions and online shopping, Vasco believes that over the next few years demand for one-time password solutions to enhance online security will increase significantly, leading to further the market growth for its solutions.”
