Neither company is commenting on broken promise made to players

Publisher THQ and developer Volition have not managed to create and implement a promised exclusive multiplayer mode that was set to be part of the PlayStation 3 home console version of Saints Row: The Third, prompting some to question why companies include such promises in their advertising material.

During the E3 trade event this year the two companies and Sony talked about a game mode which will only be offered on the PlayStation 3 which was going to use the “signature weapon” of the game, the pink dildo bat.

But the reviewers that have received both PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Saints Row: The Third are saying that they have looked closely at the options offered and there's no difference between the two.

Some have suggested that the Whored Mode, which is a wave based cooperative experience, was initially set to be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 but has since been also included in the Xbox 360 and the PC versions of the game.

THQ and Volition have not commented on the story.

This omission comes after a bigger player in the video games industry, Electronic Arts, has failed to keep their promise to include a version of Battlefield 1943 in some copies of the new DICE made Battlefield 3.

It's not clear what players who were interested in picking up the PlayStation 3 version of a game hoping for more content can do when they discover that it's not actually there because the publishers decided not to keep some promise made during the hype phase.

Presumably they could try and sue the company for false advertising, aiming to recuperate their costs and trying to get damages.

Exclusive content for one platform or another has been seen as a good way of boosting hardware sales for Microsoft and Sony.
