CO2 emissions are expected to grow as human society continues to develop

Although, when talking about population growth, most people worry about cities becoming overcrowded, recent studies indicate that having more people walking around will also lead to more damage being done to the natural world.

Taking into consideration the recent developments in UK's population, Erasmia Anastasaki from the London School of Economics carried out a study to determine exactly what it is that we should expect if this country's population continues to grow at its present rhythm.

Thus, her studies lead her to the following conclusion: UK's projected population growth for the next 22 years is to be linked to an extra one billion tonnes being added to the country's present CO2 emissions.

Apparently, as Population Matters explains, the UK would have to build roughly 27,000 more wind turbines just to keep up with the new energy demands without further harming the environment.

These new pieces of information somehow seem to contradict what British officials have been telling us lately: that they have serious plans to go green and cut down on gas emissions, and that soon enough they will succeed in doing just this.

Erasmia Anastasaki also added that 20% of the expected rise in carbon emissions would be a direct result of having to build more households or to expand urban areas so as to accommodate for the newly-arrived British citizens.

Leaving aside the fact that this study was carried out in the UK and only focused on what is happening in this particular country, it is our belief that similar situations are likely to arise in other parts of the world as well.

While Erasmia Anastasaki proposes that British officials try and find ways to control UK's population growth, we believe that future such problems could also be avoided by making more efforts to invest in renewable energy sources.
