Press Play and Microsoft confirm that Project Totem, the ambitious indie puzzle game presented to the world earlier this year, is now called Kalimba and is set to launch for the Xbox One in December and for the PC in January of 2015.

Press Play has delighted quite a few independent game fans in recent years with solid experiences, including the most recent Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, which acted as a sequel to Max and the Magic Marker from a few years ago.

During the end of that game's development period, two of its designers, Asger and Bo Strandby, came up with a small idea about another puzzle platformer, this time involving totem pieces. The resulting prototype quickly captured the hearts and minds of their colleagues, and the Danish studio put the whole thing into development under the codename Project Totem.

After some pretty solid showings at different trade shows this year, the team now confirms that it's found a new name and a set of release dates for the upcoming title.

Project Totem is now Kalimba

According to the announcement on the Xbox Wire, the game is now called Kalimba, which is also the name of the island where the actual action takes place, inhabited by the Kalimbi people.

The game still retains its already revealed features, from the special visual design to the impressive puzzle pieces and the local cooperative mode.

"Press Play’s highly-anticipated puzzle platformer has players controlling animated totems on a quest to overthrow an evil shaman and reclaim the island of Kalimba for the Kalimbi people. The distinct look comes from the trixelated art style that uses triangles as the main influence. In addition to the unique art style of the world, puzzles, enemies and totems, Kalimba also offers both single player and couch co-op modes," Microsoft explains.

The game is coming this winter season

Just like Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, Kalimba is coming first to the Xbox One platform, where it's going to debut on December 17 via the Xbox Live Marketplace as a downloadable title for 10 USD/EUR. Afterwards, PC users will be able to enjoy the novel game on their own platform in January of 2015.

As of yet, there's no word on whether Kalimba is coming to more platforms besides the two already-mentioned ones.
