Windows Insider boss says the rebranding is underway

Microsoft Edge is the new browser that will be included in Windows 10, and the Redmond-based technology company will release it alongside Internet Explorer in the new operating system in a little bit more than one month.

Edge browser is already up for testing in the existing Windows 10 builds, but under a different name, as the company first called the browser Project Spartan for internal testing.

At this point, Project Spartan is the name being used in the public preview builds, but Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, has said in a short tweet that Edge is already being tested internally and could be released to users soon.

Not coming in the next build

Microsoft announced the name of its new browser earlier this year and promised to complete the rebranding process as soon as possible in order to give users a chance to try it out before the final tidbits of Windows 10 hit the market.

Aul, however, has said that, despite the fact that Edge is already part of the internal builds, it won’t be released to users when the next version of Windows 10 preview arrives. All signs point to a new release this week, but the version number is yet to be disclosed.

On the other hand, Aul’s message suggests that there will be more than one build of Windows 10 preview released before RTM, which, according to various sources, should be reached this or next month. The final version of Windows 10 will be released to everyone on July 29, but the Windows Insider program will continue after that, as Microsoft wants to keep working with insiders for the next updates.

The very first update for Windows 10 is expected to arrive later this year, most likely together or soon after the debut of Windows 10 Mobile in October.
