Piranha Bytes' RPG, one step closer to being released

A couple of weeks ago, the guys over at Piranha Bytes started a teasing process, by announcing their Project RPB - a working title created by the combination of PB (the name of the company) and RPG (the genre of the new game). Other details were not given, though, so we just started to imagine things that had nothing to do with the reality. But as of now, things should be a bit clearer.

Piranha Bytes has just announced the official name for their RPG and that is... Risen! A new teaser website took the place of the old one, adding a countdown timer and nothing else - we can still look at the wonderful volcano and the dark surroundings (which seem to represent a bit of the game world), but we still don't know much.

Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, managing director of Koch Media, the publisher of the game, teases us even more, "Piranha Bytes have already proven their enormous talent for creating both enthralling and profound role-playing worlds. With Risen, the team presents a new exciting scenario providing a great variety of adventures, which will keep players glued in front of their monitors."

However, for those who wish to squeeze even the last bit of the big nothing we have until now on the game, there is a rather lengthy FAQ here, which tries to offer some more contextual details on Risen. For example, we are told that we will be dealing with basically a dungeon crawling, hack and slash type of game, with more attention being paid to catacombs, dungeons, sewer-systems and keeps - so this game could prove to be the best training ground for those who are still waiting for Diablo 3.

Next, we get to find out a few things about character appearance, about the fact that the other creatures in the game (except for humans) will no longer be the classic orcs, elves and dwarves and that there are no scripted sequences planned for the final version. And all these details just sound great! Now all we have to do is wait for the Games Convention when more details on the title will be offered. Hopefully, a release date too.
