The team at Sony in charge of the PlayStation 4 home console is launching the full presentation at the 2014 Game Developers Conference where it unveiled Project Morpheus for the first time, giving players a chance to see how the company presented the device.

Shuhei Yoshida, the leader of the World Wide Studios, is quoted as saying that, "Our current prototype for Project Morpheus features a head mounted display with 1080p resolution and a 90 degree field of view."

The new virtual reality headset will use an accelerometer and gyroscope sensors in conjunction with the PlayStation Camera in order to carefully track both head orientation and movement.

Project Morpheus will also include a new 3D audio technology designed to re-create stereoscopic sounds in all directions and change the audio landscape in real time.

Sony has made it clear that the current version of the VR device is just a prototype and its design and capabilities can be modified before it is offered to customers.

It will only work with the PlayStation 4 home console.

The video release from Sony comes just after Facebook announced that it had bought the rival Oculus Rift and that it planned to use it to expand the kinds of social experiences it is offering to its users.
