14 DAY TRIAL // Project Morpheus, Sony’s upcoming virtual reality headset, announced in March this year, is already embarking on a VIP press tour, ahead of its 2015 launch.
A working prototype of the headset was demoed on NBC’s The Tonight Show, and Jimmy Fallon, the show’s host, has demonstrated his masterful flailing technique, while his guest Channing Tatum got the chance to take on the role of a crossbowman.
More reserved in his approach, Tatum was merely content to fire some bolts at Fallon’s head, but the reputable comedian went to town on a poor practice dummy, going crazy with a pair of PlayStation Move controllers, until their party was crashed by a neighboring dragon.
Aside from the fact that the visuals are still a bit rough, as can be seen when Tatum tries to locate Fallon and only ends up looking at half of Rayman, seeing just a floating helmet and pair of hands, the demo was overall pretty successful.
Sony’s response to the Oculus Rift is designed to work with the PlayStation 4 home entertainment system, and will most likely play a large role in the company’s E3 2014 press conference next week.
A commercial date for the product has not been disclosed yet by Sony, but the virtual reality headset is likely to come out sometime during 2015. Stay tuned for more information on Project Morpheus after Sony’s E3 presentation.
