The developers at Obsidian who are working on Project Eternity have revealed the first image created using the game engine and have also offered a lot of information on the lore of the game universe.

The team has also announced new stretch goals for the Kickstarter funded game, which will get its money in four days.

Josh Sawyer, one of the leaders of Obsidian working on Project Eternity, commented on the image that the team released, saying, “we wanted to build 3D levels, render them out as 2D images, and then have our artists paint in beautiful details, highlights, and color-tweaks before they went into the game.”

He added, “Looking back at the levels some of us worked on for Icewind Dale, we were still thrilled with the quality that we could achieve with this approach. For Project Eternity, we're using 10 years of improvements in rendering technology and hardware to get the job done, but we still love what we can do the ‘old-fashioned’ way.”

The developer also offered a wealth of information on the lore of the game, including some of the races, factions, plans and concepts that will feature in Project Obsidian.

The game makers are also planning to create an entire digital almanac filled with all the background information and will offer it to all backers who want to maybe run adventures based on Project Eternity.

The entire lore drop from the developers can be read on the official Kickstarter update page.

Obsidian has also announced two new big stretch goals, a Stronghold that will be available at 3 million dollars (2.32 million Euro) including more merchants, new quests and more special options, and a new big city at 3.5 million dollars (2.7 million Euro).

At the moment, Project Eternity has 57,764 backers on Kickstarter and has reached 2.728 million dollars (2.1 million Euro).
