The development team at Obsidian says that it is making progress in the development of the upcoming Project Eternity and that one of the biggest cities in the game could soon be in an entirely playable state.

Brandon Adler, a producer at the studio, says that a number of new developers have been hired since the team last offered an update and all departments of the team have been working to make Defiance Bay an interesting place to visit and adventure in.

Writer George Ziets says on the official forums that the area is “the capital and largest city in the Dyrwood, gateway to the riches of Glanfath, teeming with adventurers and explorers from all over the region. Defiance Bay is a city of the common people, where the most prominent and respected citizens are self-made men. It stands at the forefront of experimentation in soul magic and exemplifies the age of discovery.”

The art of the new area is set to convey its unique character and suggest the lives of those who inhabit it, while the design team is creating possibilities for interaction and dialog.

The team is also ready to reveal a new enemy, called the wicht, described as “bodies of children that were born without souls, grew to adolescence, and were then possessed by a malevolent lost soul or soul fragment that has been artificially inserted through animancy.”

Obsidian says that core armor sets are now ready for all races and that a working quest journal has been implemented.

The conversation mechanic is also getting some attention and the team might soon reveal a fully working prototype.

Somehow, team leader Josh Sawyer also found time to create a video about the core design philosophy he is using for Project Eternity.

The game is expected to launch on the PC in 2014 and will offer a classic turn-based and party-powered role-playing experience.
