The development team at Obsidian is celebrating one year since its new Project Eternity was first announced and the team is ready to offer a little more detail on the game world and the environments that gamers will be able to explore.

An interview with Hector Espinoza, the lead environment artist, reveals that gamers will get to see a lot of variety, both in terms of the actual world and the way various characters react to it.

The developer states, “I'm looking forward to the day when people get to enjoy our finished product. We are putting in a lot of hard work and effort to deliver something special to our fans and backers, thank you all so much for making this possible! I also want to play it! Our playtests have been really fun.”

Espinoza has had previous experience with Dungeon Siege III, some unannounced projects, the Van Buren prototype, Vampire: Bloodlines, Full Spectrum Warrior 2, and Lord of the Rings: Conquest.

He adds that he loves the first Kickstarter image that was released for Project Eternity because “I learned a lot when creating that scene and the feeling of nostalgia was awesome.”

The new Obsidian project is designed to use classic party-based role-playing game mechanics, allowing the player to explore a world filled with lore and characters and engage in tactical battles with a variety of enemies.

The art style is very important to the project because it needs to deliver information about the world to the player while also guiding them during their quests.

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Project Eternity, the team is also launching a new and improved version of the site, allowing backers to see their contribution and the rewards they will get on launch.

The full game, one of the biggest projects ever to be funded on Kickstarter, will be launched in 2014.
