It looks like Project Cars has managed to fend off the assault from Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, securing the number one spot in the United Kingdom's retail charts once again.

The information, as always, refers strictly to physical copies moved, and comes courtesy of UKIE, showing consumer trends in one of the biggest entertainment software markets in the world.

Project Cars, Bandai Namco and Slightly Mad Studios' very ambitious racing simulation video game, made its debut two weeks ago, and it has managed to hold on to the number one spot so far.

Next week, the competition will be fierce, and CD Projekt RED's sprawling open-world role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will surely be the victor.

But for now, the brand new racing game can still brag about being the king of UK entertainment. In spite of sales falling by a rather large percentage, and most of the game's die-hard fans already owning it, it seems that the racer still has enough gas to come on top of MachineGames' follow-up to the highly popular Wolfenstein: The New Order, which managed to land in second place, in its first week on the market.

Publisher Bethesda has noted that the shooter has been hugely popular on the PlayStation 4 home console, selling twice as many copies as those sold on the Xbox One home entertainment system from Microsoft.

The top three is closed off by Rockstar Games' gangster adventure sandbox Grand Theft Auto V, as expected.

Beyond the podium

NetherRealm Studios' brutally graphic fighting game Mortal Kombat X is still going strong, coming in at number 4, followed by a new entrant, in the form of Square Enix's Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster, re-entering the chart at number five after being launched on the PS4 home console.

The all-time favorite FIFA 15 follows at number six, with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare hot on its tracks, showing that you can't go wrong with football or military shooters.

Techland's first-person zombie survival video game Dying Light has been a constant presence in the top 10, still hanging on at number eight, followed by Bungie's sci-fi multiplayer shooter Destiny, with the top ten being rounded off by Visceral Games' urban warfare take on the Battlefield franchise, Battlefield Hardline.

Minecraft, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Forza Horizon 2, WWE 2K15, Terraria, Assassin's Creed Unity, Disney Infinity 2.0, Lego Marvel Super Heroes and Far Cry 4 hold the next ten spots in the UK retail charts.

Next week's biggest releases are The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, with already over 1 million pre-orders worldwide, and Destiny's House of Wolves expansion, which is likely to make the first-person shooter spike up a few ranks.
