The racing video game still requires more polish and fixes

Project Cars, the upcoming racing simulation game from Slightly Mad Studios, is allegedly going to be pushed back to March 2015.

The rumor started with a forum post on the game's backer-only board, informing the many supporters of the upcoming video game that they are going to have to wait a little longer before getting their driving gloves on.

In addition to this, a post has also made its way to the game's sub-Reddit, stating something about some bad news, and possibly alluding to the purported delay, as Nowgamer reports.

For the time being, publisher Bandai Namco doesn't have any information to share on the subject matter, and developer Slightly Mad Studios has not made an official announcement.

Not your typical racer

After cutting its teeth on Need for Speed: Shift, Shift 2: Unleashed and Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends, the developer decided to try its luck with crowdfunding and to develop a racing video game like no other.

The company managed to raise a staggering amount of money, considering that it didn't go the usual route, through Kickstarter, Indiegogo or a similar platform, but instead used its own website and forums to attract people.

This also meant that the actual audience that the game was intended for got much more involved in the actual development process, ensuring the game's quality. Furthermore, those who supported development of the game will get a share of the game sales profits generated by Project Cars within the first 3 years after launch.

The game features an extensive physical simulation engine, with dynamic tire models and a lot of technological bells and whistles, and the developer even hired professional racing drivers to help get the feel or taking part in a massive race right, to ensure a faithful experience for its players.

Aiming for first place, but getting a late start

The game is allegedly going to come out in March of 2015, with a screen grab of the forum post, supposedly written by Project Cars Development Director Andy Garton, informing of the delay.

The reasoning behind the decision is twofold: first, there are a lot of strong games coming out within the same initial release window of Project Cars, and secondly, the game still needs additional polish and some fixes, in order to deliver the rich and immersive racing experience promised.

Project Cars was initially set to release on November 21 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with Wii U and Steam OS versions slated for sometime in 2015.
