It was only a matter of time before more developers announced their full support for Apple's iPhone and iPods, as far as gaming is concerned. iDevGames, the community of Macintosh game developers, has opened a message board for iPhone & iPod game development, intended as a place for developers to share their experience and challenges specific to Apple's devices.

"Independent developers from our community have expanded into a wide range of professional, A+ game developers and publishers, and we anticipate that the future of game programming for the iPhone and iPod will be born in our 1,000-plus member community of developers from around the world. Although we're still some time away from wide open game development for the iPhone, please join us in our new message board to discuss game programming & development of games for Apple's handheld mobile platforms," said Carlos Camacho, Editor-in-Chief of iDevGames.

iDevGames says it has carefully observed the iPhone and iPod market, and has thus realized that these markets are "poised to explode in the next few years," while "the benefits to our core market, Apple Macintosh game developers, will be significant," the team claims.

"Developers will be able to leverage their experience with Apple technologies to lead game development on these exciting, and much desired, gaming platforms," Carlos Camacho explains. "In addition, we anticipate the market share for Macintosh computers to continue to increase as more cross-over iPhone and iPod users adopt the Mac platform - creating a larger potential market for Mac games," the post ends.

Come next month, iPhone users will be able to get a glimpse of the new App Store, the place where all iPhone / iPod touch apps will be made available for download. Apple has decided applications under 10 MB can be downloaded over the cellular network. Users looking to download pieces of software larger than 10 MB will have to get them over WiFi or by syncing to iTunes. The App Store will be accessible from just about anywhere. Users will be able to browse categories, do a keyword search, or take a look at recommendations to ultimately download and install applications directly onto their iPhone.
