Taking a break from all the desktop, notebook and tablet PC announcements (not that we can blame companies for the abundance of those, given what's coming next week at Computex), ASUS has launched a monitor. Said monitor bears the name of PA279Q ProArt series and uses an AH-IPS monitor, which means it has a wide color spectrum and excellent viewing angles but sacrifices a bit of the response time for it.

Not that it's such a loss. This is, after all, a professional display for video editing and designing, not a panel that needs to quickly update during high-speed shooter games.

Besides, 6ms GTG is only marginally worse than the common 5ms that monitors have most of the time.

Since we're on the subject of specifications, the AH-IPS display has a native resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, or WQHD.

The screen is also capable of displaying 99% Adobe Wide Gamut RGB. Factory calibration ensures maximum out-of-the-box color accuracy, and Increased Backlight Transmission makes the image brighter and clearer than it would otherwise be.

Of course, manual color control is not left out. There is actually six-axis independent adjustment (R, G, B, C, M, Y).

For those who want all the numbers, the resolution translates into a pixel density of 109 ppi (pixels per inch).

Furthermore, the monitor has a brightness of 350 cd/m2, two 3W stereo speakers, multiple video connectors (DisplayPort, HDMI, dual-link DVI-D Ports), picture-in-picture capability (PIP) and viewing angles of 178 degrees both horizontally and vertically (the IPS panel is fully responsible for this one).

Furthermore, ASUS tossed in an SD card slot and a six-port USB 3.0 hub controller.

Verily, the only piece of information that ASUS failed or chose not to share is the price of the PA279Q.

All in all, the professional monitor should satisfy everyone who works in computer-assisted video design and related industries and/or professions.
