One of the producers working on the much-awaited Warcraft movie, which is based on the well-known MMO from Blizzard, says that he expects the title to spend no less than two full years in post-production in order to deliver a quality experience to fans of the franchise.

Duncan Jones, the director, has recently explained that actual filming on the product is close to wrapping up. Many fans then asked why the official launch was set for 2016.

Thomas Tull, the chief executive officer at the Legendary Films production company, is quoted by CraveOnline as saying that the extra time is needed to make sure that the final movie lives up to the original vision of the director.

The company will devote all its resources to making sure that the cutting edge sequences that Duncan Jones has created will be well integrated with the story and the wider lore of Warcraft.

Tull states, “So by the time they get home and set up, it’ll be a little less than two years. It’ll be about 20 months but we really want to take our time and get this right because the technology that’s employed really is some next generation stuff.”

Legendary Films also wants to make sure that the Warcraft movie launches during a period when it does not face competition from other big franchises, like Star Wars, that might capture the same audience.

So far, only limited information about the story has been offered and it seems that the producers want the mystery to remain.

Tull adds, “I would say it’s a linear story, but at the same time, it’s Duncan Jones. That’s what we wanted. That different flare, not just straightforward fantasy and everything. Look, it’s a privilege. Being able to go from Interstellar’s our fifth movie with Chris Nolan into Guillermo del Toro and Gareth Edwards and now Duncan Jones.”

The director is David Bowie’s son and he is best known for the work he has done on Moon and Source Code.

The Warcraft-themed movie is a complex project that will focus on the core lore of the video game series, but will star new characters and new situations.

A new expansion for the MMO is at the moment in development at Blizzard, called Warlords of Draenor, and is currently set to be launched before the end of the year, introducing a new level cap and more areas to explore.
